Government initiates schemes and programmes to alleviate the suffering of the poor and meet their basic needs. but poverty remains in our country. what could be the reason for such a situation? make a project on it

The reasons why there is poverty in India despite schemes and programmes by the government to alleviate the suffering of the poor and meet their basic needs are the following; 

(i) Per Capita Income: The rate of per capita income of India is low. Hence, there is poverty as most people do not have enough resources. 

(ii) Unequal Distribution of Wealth: The wealth of India is accumulated by the elite or upper class in India. 

(iii) Economic Divide and Class System: People are divided into classes like working, middle, upper-middle and elite classes which created an economic divide in the country. 

(iv) Wage Rate: The wage rate in India is low as compared to other developing countries. The unskilled labour is lowly paid while the skilled isn't, this creates the difference of wage and economic divide.
