Since independence many rural development programmes have been taken by the Govt.of India and various State Govts. and implementing it through Five Year Plans.
 Some of these programmes are:

High Yielding Varieties Programme (HYVP - Green Revolution)

Their policies for the upliftment of farmers include ensuring proper supply of pests and fertilisers, to see that they r provided with quality seeds.
