governmental policies of the colonies that helped shape our Constitutional Republic today. Look for examples of policies that were established during the colonial period which are still in use today. Some things to think about are the powers of the federal government separated among three branches, the system of checks and balances, and the process by which bills become laws.

There are several policies of the colonial era that helped shaped our republic into what it is today.

Firstly there has been a separation of powers done so that the legislative, executive and judiciary are kept separate to save democracy.

The system of checks and stability ensures that no branch of the government goes beyond the law in its functioning.

We also adopted a parliamentary form of government and the order of reading bills based on the British model.
