We live in a free world, where everyone has the right to do whatever he/she wants to do; and if anyone does something that harms the interest of others, there is law to take care of that. I believe the grandfather was absolutely right in moving away from his daughters. I will give the following arguments in support of my point of view:
1. His daughters actually hurt him by behaving so meanly and selfishly. They crossed all the limits of selfishness by assuming him dead, and not even bothering to call a doctor to have him examined. Their all thoughts were on securing as much of his property and as they could. Amelia went a step farther her sister by already sneaking bureau, slippers, and clock.
2. He gave his daughters enough time to prove they actually cared for him, but they failed miserably.
3. Every person in this world wants to be loved and cared for; he has the the right to get it from wherever he can get it. Abel Merryweather was getting it from Mrs Shorrocks, so he was right in leaving his daughters who were least bothered about him.
So on the basis of the above mentioned arguments, I strongly approve of his decision of leaving his daughters. The values highlighted through his character are: justice, smartness, paying somebody in the same coin, experience, move ahead in life, and live life optimally.
