He was not entirely right in moving away from his daughters. Being more experienced, he must have known the evils of the human heart. He must have taken into consideration the fact that selfishness, greed, and avarice are everywhere; there is no family where these problems don't exist. He should have made them realise their mistake and not punished them so hard.
