Given : equation 2x-y-4=0 and x+y+1=0

intersect at P ( a , b)

To Find : a and b

Solution:

2x-y-4=0

x+y+1=0

add both

=> 3x - 3 = 0

=> x - 1  = 0

=> x = 1

1 + y + 1 = 0

=> y = -2

( 1, -2) is the point of intersection

a = 1  b = -2
