a. In mathematics, an identity function, also called an identity relation or identity map or identity transformation, is a function that always returns the same value that was used as its argument. In equations, the function is given by f(x) = x.

b. A modulus function is a function which gives a positive output irrespective of the input. That means that even if I input a negative value of x, there will always be a positive value of y for the function y=f(x)=| x.
