Because of its arrangement of atoms, graphite is a good lubricant . The carbon atoms in graphite is arranged in the form of sheets. On applying pressure, the carbon atoms are slipped off from the surface easily. So, it is used at the places in the form of powdered lubricating agent where oils are not used.
