Solution :-

Given, Food Chain ::

→ Grass → Insect → Frog → Snake → Kite

Understanding the Food Chain ::

In this food chain, the grass is eaten by insect. This insect is eaten by frog. Now this frog is being eaten by snake which is eventually eaten by the kite. Now we can see indirectly all the organisms in the food chain depend on grass for food and nutrition.

a.) There two possibilities if frog in the given food chain disappears ::

» Increase in Insects : We see that frog in this chain eat insects. This means that frog maintains the population of insects in the ecosystem. If frogs disappear then the population of insects will increase. This increase in population of insects will be harmful for grass. The reason is that more insects will have less grass to eat . Thus they will destroy crops and grass for their nutrition.

» Increase in Snakes : We see that snake in this chain eat frogs. This means thag frog is an essential part of diet of snakes. This means that snakes depends on frogs for nutrition. Now if frogs are dissappeared in the chain, then snakes won't get food to eat. Thus their population will decrease because they won't get proper food to eat.

b.) The omnivore in the chain is Insects. Initially insects are omnivorous here. This because there are many insects like Crickets, Earwig, etc. eat both plant and flesh of other animals. There population is more comparitibly to frogs who are omnivores.

Actually most of the frogs feed on insects and other living organisms. But some types of frogs eat plant matter also. These plants are found at the marshy land.

We see that snakes are carnivorous since they eat only other organisms. Even same goes for kite who are purel carnivores.

So from this we can conclude that insects are the omnivores here.

c.) The example another similar type of chain is ::

Grass Grasshopper Frog Owl

Here we see that with regards to frog, grasshopper and owl are highly connected to it. If frogs are dissappeared then the population of grasshopper will increase because no one will be there to eat them. If frogs are dissappeared then the population of Owls will decrease because their efficient source of nutrition in diet will not be there.

More to know :-

Food Chain : It is the chain that shows that how and which organism eats othe organism to live.

Tropic Levels : These are the different levels in food chain where an organism gets nutrition by the process of consuming other organism.

Nutrition : It is the process by which an organism gains energy to do work.

a) The phenomenon represented above is the food chain.

b) The organism that could be shown at No.5 is Hawk.

c) Photosynthesis is the biological process which was the starting point of the whole chain.

d) Oxygen is the element which all the organisms 2-4 and even 5 are getting from No. 1 for their survival
