Given info : grasshopper finds that he can jump a maximum horizontal distance of 1 m.
To find : the speed of grasshopper by which he can travel along the road if he spends a negligible time on the ground.
solution : we know, horizontal range , R = u²sin2θ/g
horizontal range will be maximum when sin2θ becomes maximum.
i.e., sin2θ = 1
So, maximum range, R = u²/g
Here R = 1m , g = 10 m/s²
So, u² = 1m × 10 m/s²
⇒u = √10 m/s
Therefore the speed of grasshopper is √10 m/s

Explanation:
R max = u^2 sin 2 theta
Rmax = u^2/g
sin2 theta =sin 90
2theta=90
theta=45
upply in this above formula
Rmax = u^2/g
1=u^2/9.8
u^2= 9.8
under root of 9.8= u
u= 3.16 mls
