Water, oil and sand do not mix.

Explanation:

  • When you have a beaker of water and you add 1 teaspoon of gravel to it, the gravel will gradually settle at the bottom. When you add 2 drops of sunflower oil, the oil will float on the surface of the water. The oil, sand and water do not normally mix.

  • But if you give a quick stir, the 3 ingredients will appear to mix and form a mixture. If you leave the mixture undisturbed for sometime, the oil will go back to floating on the surface and the sand particles will settle down at the bottom as before.
