At the centre of the earth d = R, hence acceleration due to gravity at the centre of the earth is zero. Thus the acceleration due to gravity at a small height 'h' from the surface of the earth is the same as the acceleration due to gravity at the depth 'd = 2h' below the surface of the earth.
