Gravitational acceleration is define as acceleration of freely falling body.... why we should take its value as negative as we move upward. Which not falling object.

Explanation:

It is so because we are moving in direction opposite to the direction of gravitational attraction force , thus as we go higher velocity of body decreases and at highest point v=0....while gravitational acceleration i.e. g keep on acting downwards in the whole journey.
