This was a cause of revolution of 1857. in this incident a new type of enfield rifle was introduced whose cartridge was made up of or smeard with cow or pig's fat as grease and a paper covering over it which was bitten before they could be loaded in rifle . this offened the religious sentiments of both hindus and muslim and they refuse to use it..
