First step is to find the biggest six digit number, which is 999999.

From that we see that one of the digits has to be 9, and as we need two digits more, and to get the greatest we can get, it should be obvious that we have to use the greatest digits below that for the other two, namely 8 and 7.

Then the second step is to replace 9’s from the greatest six digit number with them, making sure the number we get is the greatest possible. So, let’s change the last number to the smallest of them and the second to last number to the bigger of the two, and we get 999987.

Now, if we’d list all the options we have for a number of six digits consisting of the three largest numbers, we’d be able to easily find out that the number is the greatest of them. Thus, we have come to the answer of the question.

Answer:

Intuitively I can say that a larger number will have the highest possible numbers for all its digits

We have to use 3 different digits, lets choose the highest digits - 9, 8, 7

So, the greatest 6 digit number using these digits will be - 999987
