Answer:

It is absolutely true greed is considered to be a cardinal sin. The poem Legend of the Northland beautifully highlights this truth. People who are greedy not only worsen other’s problems and sufferings, but also attract untold misery for themselves.

In the poem The Legend of Northland, the old woman behaved very greedily and selfishly to St. Peter who was hungry and faint. She did not have the heart to give even a small cake to the hungry saint. Her selfishness infuriated the divine saint and he converted her to a woodpecker.

If the old woman had shown kindness and given a cake to St. Peter, he surely would have blessed her and multiplied her joys.

Answer:

Greed is rightly called a grave sin because it kills the possibility of a proper human relation with the creator. Sharing what we know is a form of giving. greed is the desire for material wealth or gain.

It is absolutely true, greed is considered to be a sin. The poem Legend of Northland beautifully highlights this truth. People who are greedy, not only worsen others problems and sufferings but also attract untold misery for themselves. In the poem, the old lady behaved very greedily and selfishly to St. Peter who was hungry and faint. She did not have the heart to give even a small cake to the hungry saint. Her selfishness infuriated the divine saint and converted her into a woodpecker. As he said she did not deserve to live as a human with food and warmth for herself, she was cursed to be a woodpecker because she has to bore into hard and dry trees for food.

If the old woman had shown some kindness towards the saint and offered him some cake, she would have surely been blessed, and the saint would have multiplied the joys.
