Before Green Revolution we were not food sufficient, we used to import much of the food grains. Our population was increasing exponentially & thus government felt the need of increasing the production.

Green Revolution increased the production of food grains many fold, there is no doubt about it but it brought some problems along with it like:

1. Soil salinity
2. Water logging

Increased use of fertilizers, pesticides is resulting in decrease in land fertility, so in long term, it is not sustainable.
