Green revolution needs HYV seeds, modern machinery and fertilizers. For each cultivation season lots of fertilizers are used. The fertilizer kills the helpful microorganisms in the soil and degrades the soil. So, each season more fertilizer is used. This leads to the destruction of soil.

Green Revolution had been a success in some states due to enormous increase in foodgrain production but it is also associated with some losses.

(1) Green Revolution is associated with loss in soil fertility inn some area due to increased use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

(2) Green Revolution had been responsible for the lowering of water table in some regions due to extensive groundwater use for tubewell irrigation.
