India's Green Revolution programme was a success story indeed :— (a) Usage of fertilizers and advanced agricultural implements developed Indian Agriculture to a great extent. (b) It boosted India's economy, as the high yielding variety seeds promised huge quantities of farm produce {Moreover, Agriculture was then the backbone of Indian economy}. (c) This made India self-sufficient in foodgrain production for the first time. However, this governmental initiative did have some drawbacks: — (i) It only benefitted the rich and medium farmers, who could afford the expensive machinery & chemicals. (ii) Class disparity occurred, as the rural people were rendered landless by the rich farmers, who were eager to cultivate more for bigger profits. (iii) Regional disparity prevailed as well, since Punjab, Haryana, Western UP were the only Indian states that experienced the positive approach of the Green Revolution.
