Green Revolution was started in India in 1960s . M S Swaminathan- the father of Green Revolution in India introduced high-yielding varieties of wheat which brought a revolution in Indian agrarian economy. We see in 3rd Five Year Plan ( 1961-66) Green Revolution was started on a small scale which could not succeed due to Chinese aggression in 1962 and Indo-Pak war of 1965. During 5th five Year plan, under the impact of Green Revolution high-yielding varieties of seeds, fertilizer use, new agriculture techniques and new irrigation facilities were introduced which drastically increased the production of food grains. Later we see, various farmer welfare schemes and subsidized fertilizers encouraged the farmers and ultimately India began to become self sufficient in food grains.
