Atomic number of Chlorine is 17

Electronic configuration of chlorine will be

1s^{2} , 2s^{2} , 2p^{6} , 3s^{2} , 3p^{5}

n=1 (number of unpaired electrons in outermost orbit)

The formula for magnetic moment is

\alpha =\sqrt{n(n+2)}

\sqrt{1(1+2)}=\sqrt{3}

therefore the magnetic moment of Chlorine will be \sqrt{3}

The property of a magnet that interacts with a field present which is strong enough to give a mechanical movement is called the magnetic movement of an element.
