Ground state term of d1 configuration similar to d9.

Explanation:

d sub-shell has 5 orbitals which are: d_{xy}, d_{yz}, d_{xz}, d_{z^{2}}, d_{x^2 - y^2}

Each orbital can have maximum of 2 electrons.

So, d - sub - shell can accomodate a maximum of 10 electrons.

The filling of orbitals is done by following Hund's rule.

1st all the 5 orbitals are singly occupied, then the electrons are paired.

(i) In d2, number of unpaired eletcrons = 2

(ii) In d3, number of unpaired eletcrons = 3

(iii) In d7, number of unpaired eletcrons = 3

(iv) In d9, number of unpaired eletcrons = 1

Number of unpaired electrons in d1 = 1

Hence, Ground state term of d1 configuration similar to d9 as both have one unpaired electron.
