Ground water is an example of renewable resources. These resources are replenished by nature as in the case of crops and plants. However, even these resources may be overused. For example, in the case of groundwater, if we use more than what is being replenished by rain then we should be over using this resource.
Non-renewable resources are those which will get replenished after years of use. We have a fixed stock on earth which cannot be replenished. We do discover new resources that we did not know of earlier. New resources in this way add to the stock. However, over time, even this will get exhausted

a) which resource can be replenished by nature like groundwater?
b) Name the resource that is given an example which is overused.
c) What is meant by non-renewable resources?
d) In what way new resources are being added to the stock?

Answer:

The main sources of water are surface water, groundwater and rainwater.

Overusing a resource refers to exploiting a resource to such extent than its sustainable limit. When resources are used in such a manner, replenishment of the resource would not be possible.

Nonrenewable energy resources include coal, natural gas, oil, and nuclear energy. Once these resources are used up, they cannot be replaced, which is a major problem for humanity as we are currently dependent on them to supply most of our energy needs.

Examples of stock resources include fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas) as well as minerals such as gold, copper, tin, uranium etc. In contrast to stock resources, flow resources are renewed within a short timescale, either through natural physical systems or biotic reproduction.
