There are 3 major groups of an ecosystem which regulate the flow of energy in an ecosystem.  

- Producers

- Consumers

- Decomposers

Producers are the ones which produce energy naturally and feed consumers. Consumers survive on the energy comes from producers and other secondary consumers.  

When consumers die, they are fed by decomposers. Decomposers take the energy from the consumers and transfer it back to the atmosphere. This is how energy flows between one group to another group.
