Group number ( IUPAC) WITH maximum number of elements is
Answers
In chemistry, a group (also known as a family) is a column of elements in the periodic table of the chemical elements. There are 18 numbered groups in the periodic table; the f-block columns (between groups 3 and 4) are not numbered. ... Groups may also be identified using their topmost element, or have a specific name.
The group numbers with the maximum number of elements are:
1, 2, 14, 16 and 18
- Six is the maximum no of elements in a group.
- Group 1 and 2 (s-block elements) and group 18 (noble gases) have 6 elements each.
- Group 14 and 16 also have 6 elements each but in both the groups, one element is recently discovered and not assigned a proper name yet.
(NOTE:
(1) Hydrogen is put at the top of the periodic table, so we are not considering it as a part of 1st group.
(2) Some theories consider lanthanides and actinides in group 3 that lead the no of elements in group 3 to 32, but this is not according to the IUPAC norms, so we are not considering it.)
