A group of students from our school were honoured by the Board of Directors today, with social service medals and a fee discount. These children had volunteered to help the victims of the floods that occurred last month and had adopted the entire village of Balipara, in the Tezpur district of Assam. The students managed two fronts; the collection of funds and study material and their utilisation. The funds provided ration to the affected families, while the study material which included semi-used notebooks and stationery were given to students of the government school. It took about five days to get the workforce, plans and distribution channels in place. The volunteers did a commendable job, considering their age. With the village school functional and fewer worries about food, the villagers could focus on fixing their homes and tending to their fields once again.
