Mitosis is used for growth and repair of the tissues. During mitosis, a cell makes an exact copy of itself and splitls into two new cells. Each cell contains an exact copy of the original cell's chromosomes in their 23 pairs. This is the reason why all the cells in an organism are genetically identical.
