growth of plants is restricted to only certain parts such as roots and tips of shoot or in case of doctors, lateral growth occurs. plants have meristematic tissue which are capable of division. these are present only in the shoot tips and the root tips. cells of these tissue undergo division to help the plant grow. lateral growth occurs in the dicot plants due to the presence of the cambium ring. these cambium ring widens and form xyl2m and phloem inside the stem, hence making it grow laterally.
