The cell is composed of lipid and cellulosic pectate substance which are soft and plastic. Due to this softness the cell wall gets stretched or elongated during the growth.

We know that the two ways of the elongation are intussusception and growth by apposition among which in intussusception there is interpolation of the materials which gets  the new cells to be interpolated among the already existing cells which results in the growth of the surface area of the plant.
