Hy there,
This is a question of orthodontics from 4th year BDS. My question. Aah!!! Mazza aayega...
Well, let's start,
Functional matrix theory was given by Melvin moss.
He said that the origin, form, position, growth, maintenance of all the skeletal tissues and organs are always secondary, compensatory and necessary responses to chronologically and morphologically prior events or processes that occur in specifically related non-skeletal tissues, organs or functioning spaces

I know, ye samjhna mushkil hai, Hindi mai btata hu asaan kr k,
He said ki jaise ki mandible ki ya phir kisi bhi organ, non skeletal tissue ya spaces ki growth pehle se hi decided hoti hai ki vo honi hi hai, toh is process ko pura krne k liye, un k aaspaas k skeletal tissues ka growth hota hai taaki us ek specific tissue, organ jo bhi hai usme growth ho sake...

Mandible ki hi ab growth ki baat krta hu,
Hmari functional matrix theory jo hai vo do cheezo p depend hai-
1. Functional matrix
2. Skeletal unit.

Skeletal unit bhi 2 units se bnti hai - Microskeletal and macroskeletal.
Mandible macroskeletal unit hai(mtlb ki badi unit) jo ki bhut saare choti units se bni hai, jo hai hmare Microskeletal units... Mandible k case mai vo Microskeletal units hai- alveolar, angle of mandible, condylar, gonial, mental, coronoid and basal micro-skeletal units.
In sb parts mai bone formation or bone resorption chlti rehti hai, jise hm bone remodelling bolte hai, uski vjh se growth of Mandible hota hai...

Mai attachments bhi de rha hu is theory ki.. Read it, agr samajh na aaye toh btana, I'll explain that part.
Hope it helps.
Thanks.
