Growth of thread like structures along with the gradual spoilage of tomato can be observed when a cut tomato is kept aside for 4 days.Interpret causes for this change​.Please answer........

A we know, moisture is the cause of growth of microbes. Since, tomato has about 80 percent moisture and a very mildly acidic pH, it is suitable for growth of many microbes,esp bacteria, like Azospirillum. These bacteria and fungi generate polysaccharides that is visible to us as a film. This film enables microorganisms to survive properly by forming their colonies.

The reason for this is that cut tomatoes provide a favorable ecosystem and pH and nutrients for the growth of fungus and bacteria which otherwise is not available to them.

Once they start flourishing a thread like structure appears that looks whitish in colour, the thread like structure showcases the growth of the pathogens . Hence, its always advisable to store the tomatoes in cold and dry place
