Sherlock Holmes was a great detective who never had a case that he couldn't solve. Grunt Munro hears about this person called Sherlock and visits him and goes on explaining his problem. He wanted to know what was happening to his wife Effie. Grunt approached Sherlock to know what's wrong with Effie.
Explanation:
- After 3 years of marriage with Grunt, Effie suddenly started asking for more money he gave it to her, but never asked why. A short time later, an empty house near the Munro’s was taken by someone, and while passing by the place one day, Grant had seen a yellow face in the window and was baffled he would also be awakened by Effie leaving the house in the middle of the night, and she would return home with excitement.
- She was caught multiple times entering and exiting that house. Grunt trued entering the place but Effie would stop him from entering and would ask him to trust her. Sherlock tells Watson that he thinks that Effie’s first husband is still alive, and is blackmailing her for money.
- The 3 break into the house, even though Effie and a strange woman who lives in the house asked them to stop. the three find a child with a yellow face. Then, Holmes removes what the apparent mask from the child’s face, revealing a Negro girl. Effie explains that her husband in America was a Negro, and that she hid her child away, she said that she made the child wear a mask so that the neighbors from gossiping.
