The negatively charged body can be thought to be an electron rich specie. When brought near the uncharged body, it repels the free electrons from the uncharged body towards its farther end. As such, the closer end of the uncharged body now experiences lack of electrons, which is a characteristic of positive charge.

Okay, basically, this occurs due to polarization of the uncharged body. Or as you may call it - 'charge induction'.

Polarization is the phenomena in which an uncharged body acquires a partial positive and a partial negative charge. Whenever, a charged body is kept in the vicinity of an uncharged 'conducting' body, it undergoes polarization due to which the unlike charges are accumulated at one side (the end which is subjected to the charged body) and the like charges on the opposite side.

So, this was the very basic reason for the aforementioned phenomenon.
