Gulab said his friend "Have you any money to spare
Answers
Indirect/Reported Speech refers to a dialogue being said to a third person/reporting what happened to a third person.
Example: Jordyn said,"At what time will the bus arrive?" (Direct)
Jordyn asked at what time the bus would arrive. (Indirect)
In the above example, when writing in indirect/reported form, the sentence changes according to its tense. Also, modifications regarding certain words like 'this' changes to 'that', 'today' changes to 'that day', 'yesterday' changes to 'the previous day' and many other words will have to be made. If the dialogue is a question, then 'said' changes to 'asked'. Also note that punctuation marks other than a full stop (.) cannot be used in indirect speech.
Gulab said to his friend,"Have you any money to spare?" (Direct)
Gulab asked his friend if he had any money to spare. (Indirect)
