Answer:-

Let the total distance traveled be d km.

Given:-

Gunjan covered half of the distance by bus at a speed of 4 km/h.

So,

  • Distance covered by bus = d/2 km
  • Speed of bus = 4 km/h.

We know that,

Time = Distance/speed

⟹ Time taken to cover d/2 km by bus = (d/2)/4 = d/8 hrs

Also,

The remaining half is covered by a car.

  • Distance covered by car = d/2.

Let the speed of car = x km/hr.

So,

⟹ Time taken by car to cover d/2 km = (d/2) / x = d/2x hrs.

It is given that,

  • Total distance covered = 12 km

so,

⟹ d = 12 km

And,

Total time taken = 2 hrs.

⟹ Time taken by bus to cover d/2 km + Time taken by car to cover d/2 km = 2 hrs

⟹ d/8 + d/2x = 2

Substituting d = 12 in LHS we get,

⟹ 12/8 + 12/2x = 2

⟹ 3/2 + 6/x = 2

⟹ (3x + 12)/2x = 2

⟹ 3x + 12 = 4x

⟹ 12 = 4x - 3x

⟹ 12 = x

The speed of the car is 12 km/hr.
