Indirect Speech refers to speech being said to a third person/reporting what happened to a third person.

Example: Leah said,"I am singing a song." (Direct)

Leah said that she was singing a song. (Indirect)

In the above example, when writing in reported/indirect form, the sentence changes according to its tense form. Also, modifications regarding certain words like 'this' changes to 'that', 'tomorrow' changes to 'the next day', 'tonight' changes to 'that night' and many other words will have to be made.

Gunman said,"Where are the basketball matches going to be held?" (Direct)

Gunman asked where the basketball matches were going to be held. (Indirect)

Hope it helps :)
