First if you see the circuit diagram, between each resistor there are two wires joined (or) connected ,

so the effective resistance of the three resistor will have a parallel combination

so the net resistance will be,

(1/R) = (1/6) + (1/8) + (1/12)

NOW TAKE LCM , THAT WILL BE 72

(1/R) = (12 + 9 + 6) / 72

= 27 / 72

(1/R) = 3/8

then,

R = 8/3 ohm
