5)The nurse told the story of the two boys to the narrator. Their father was a singer, who had been killed in the early part of the war. Shortly afterwards, their home was bombed and they became homeless. They had known a comfortable and cultured life but now they had to live in a shelter made by themselves. They suffered from starvation and exposure to cold. Their sister became sick by the time the war was over and now both of them were working hard to earn money for her treatment
(4)In orber to pay for the medical expenses of their ailing sister, Nicola and Jacopo worked hard. They would do any type of work they asked to do like Selling fruits, newspapers, polishing shoes, etc.
Because of their tremendous patience, self respect, love and devotion the narrator called them (Jacopo and Nicola) gentlemen of Verona.
(6)The boys were highly committed and devoted towards work at such a tender age. They had extreme patience, endurance and tolerance. They were extremely hard working, non-complaining, rough and tough who wanted to maintain their dignity and self-respect by not asking for sympathy and any kind of financial help from others. Despite leading a destitute life due to the war, the boys never disclosed anything to the author as they didn't want their private sufferings be made public.
Thus their sense of sacrifice and responsibility highlighted the goodness of human heart. It reflected that the world is still not completely stripped off of all nobility and can still look forward to the revival of magnanimity and generosity.
