Actually Welcome to the concept of Equivalent Resistance.

Since, here there is combination of both Resistor in parallel and Series, we will use both the formulae to calculate the 'X' resistance.

total equivalent resistance across AB = 5 ohm.

hence, we apply the rule, we get as,

AB = 4 + (1/6+1/X + 1/2)

AB = 4 + (X/6X + 6/6X + 3X/6X)

AB = 4 + (6+4X/6X)

AB = 4 + (6X/6+4X) .... (reciprocal of parallel resistors)

AB = 5...(given)

5 = 4 + (6X/6+4X)

==> 6X = 6+4X

==> 6X-4X = 6

===> 2X = 6

==> X = 3 ohms

hence the value of X resistor is 3 ohms.
