The amount of work done by a gas is given by the area under the Pressure vs Volume graph.

1. For the process ABC, The work is the area of the semicircle namely, ABCEDA.

Here, the area is equal to πab (i.e., area of an ellipse)

Therefore,

W = π 6²/2 = 18π ≈ 56.548 sq. units (Process ABC)

2. For the process DEF, area under graph is given by the area of semicircle, D to E added with area under EF.

Therefore,

W = π 3²/2 + π 3²/4 + (15–12)(18–12)

W = 27π/4 +18 ≈ 39.205 sq. units

Therefore, work done in first process is greater
