Technology major IBM is looking to bridge the gap in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) education for girls by rolling out a programme this June, which is expected to reach 4,000 secondary school students over the next year.The programme—an initiative under IBM’s Corporate Citizenship— will focus on teaching girls grade 8 and upwards the technical knowhow of coding and the nuances of workplace skills, communication and leadership, as well as build an awareness among them about the kinds of careers available to them in the STEM fields. They will also be given opportunities to interact with women IBMers who can act as their role models.
