Answer: 1)Vector quantities are represented graphically by a straight ray.

2)The platform is in motion with respect to the train.

3)Distance travelled=4s

Displacement=s towards AD

where 's' is the length of side of

square ABCD and 's' belongs to

positive real number.

4)Displacement for first car after one hour would be d units towards north and displacement for second car would be d units towards south.

5)Distance travelled is 8m and displacement is 2√10m towards south-east.

Explanation:1)Vector quantities are represented graphically by a line segment representing the magnitude of vector and directional arrow representing direction of vector.

2) The train is assumed to be at rest. Since the platform seems to be moving backwards it is in motion with respect to train.

3)AB=BC=CD=DA=s

Therefore, distance travelled by the moving body

=AB+BC+CD+DA=s+s+s+s=4s

Therefore, displacement of moving body = s towards AD

4)After one hour, first car advances to d units towards north whereas second car advances to d units towards south. These are their displacement.

5)Let us assume that the path travelled by the man toward east be AB, then towards south be BC and again towards east be CD.

AB=1.5m

BC=2m

CD=4.5m

Total distance travelled by the man=AB+BC+CD=(1.5+2+4.5)m=8m

Now, draw a line parallel to BC as AE such that BC=AE(=2m).Now, a right angled triangle is formed with AE and ED as base sides and AD as hypotenuse.

ED=EC+CD=(1.5+4.5)m=6m

Displacement if the man towards AD= √(AE^2 + ED^2)

=√(2^2 + 6^2)m

=√(4+36)m

=√40m or 2√10m towards

south-east
