Answer:
(a) alkali, halogens
(b) lose
(c) gain
(d) 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s1 - (sodium is the element)
(e) Hydrogen
(f) polar, Bromine
2 (a) - Hydrogen shows following similarities with alkali metals
- same no. of valence electrons
- both show +1 oxidation state
- both are good reducing agents
Hydrogen shows following similarities with halogens.
- both have similar ionisation energies and require 1 electron to attain noble gas configuration.
- both are diatomic
- both are non metals
- both show -1 oxdn state
- both form covalent compounds.
Due to these similarities Hydrogen can be palaces in Gp1 or Gp17.
2 (b). Hydrogen can react to form both cation and anion. The H+ ion is basically a proton. The H- ion has 2 electrons and hence the negative charge.
