Ans 3: In 1774, Louis XVI of the Bourbon family of kings ascended the throne of France. He found an empty treasury. The causes for it was (i) Long years of wars had drained the financial resources of France.

Ans 4: The reason behind French government to increase the taxes was to acquire the fund from the citizens of the country. When Louis took the charge of the state he found that the government has not sufficient fund to meet the expenses of army, court, government, machinery and etc.

Ans 5: France under the Ancien Régime (before the French Revolution) divided society into three estates: the First Estate (clergy); the Second Estate (nobility); and the Third Estate (commoners).
