In first triangle,

30° + 40° + y (let y be third angle) = 180° [By angle sum property]

70° + y = 180°

y = 110°.

But y = 180° - z (let z be the 2nd angle of the 2nd triangle) [Linear Pair}

110° = 180° - z

z = 70°.

Now, x = z + 50° [Exterior angle property]

x = 70° + 50°

x = 120°
