The microorganism shown in the figure is Rhizopus and it belongs to a fungi group.Rhizopus is a saprophytic Fungi which usually lives on dead and decaying plant material.It is also known as bread mould because they grow well on moist bread. They are used in industries for fermentation of beverages and foods.They can cause fungal infections in humans and the poisonous chemicals they produce can be fatal. Rhizopus are multicellular algae which grow as filamentous, branching hyphae.It has a root-like structure known as rhizoids which help in adhesion to surfaces and stalk-like structures called sporangiophores. Sporangia is the round shaped structure at the tip of sporangiophores and produces multinucleated spores. Rhizopus reproduce sexually as well as asexually.
