Explanation:

HNO3

= H×1+N×1+O×3

= 1×1+14×1+16×3

= 1+14+48

=63u

SO2

= S×1+O×2

= 32×1+16×2

= 32+32

= 64u

H3PO4

= H×3+P×1+O×4

= 1×3+31×1+16×4

= 3+31+64

= 98u

Answer:

4. The Mass of the element

= 3 × Mass of Carbon 12 (12.011)

= 36.033 u

36.033 u is approximately equal to the Chlorine-17 atom (35.453u)

5. (i) Molecular Mass of HNO3 = 1 + 14 + 16(3)

= 15 + 48 = 63 u

(ii) Molecular Mass of SO2 = 32 + 16(2)

= 32 + 32 = 64 u

(iii) Molecular Mass of H3PO4 = 1(3) + 31 + 16(4)

= 34 + 48 = 98 u
