The three list present in the constitution are :
1) Union list : It includes the subjects of national importance like defence , foreign affairs , banking , currency , communication , etc . It has 97 subjects inside it . Only union government can make laws regarding subjects in this list .
2) State list : It includes subjects of state importance like police , commerce , trade , agriculture , etc . It has 66 subjects . Only state government can make laws regarding subjects included in this list.
3) Concurrent list : It includes subjects of both union and state importance like Education, marriage , adoption, forest , etc . It has 47 subjects . Both state and union government can make laws for subjects in this list . If their laws conflict , union government's law will prevail .
Another list called Residuary list includes the subjects that came after the formation of the constitution . For example : Information technology , etc . Union government can make laws for it .
