Explanation:

It is so because, the particles of hot sizzling food are moving continuously in the air and they diffuse rapidly in the air . But , the particles of cold food are not continuously moving. So, they don't diffuse rapidly in the air.

So , we get the smell of hot sizzling food from several metres away but not so cold food.

When food is hot, diffusion is more. But in cold food diffusion is slow. Hence to get the smell from cold food we have to go close.
