In some plants the stems are modified to perform the function of storage of food, support, protection and vegetative propagation. For food storage: Rhizome (ginger), Tuber (potato), Bulb (onion), Corm (colocasia). For support: Stem tendrils of watermelon, grapevine, cucumber.
